The Dawson Hospitality Group application for a Commercial Hotel Liquor license for the Dululu Hotel could be viewed as a reinstatement of a long standing community facility rather than a new impact on the Dululu Community. The original Dululu hotel was established 1928 but was destroyed by fire and the current hotel, once a boarding house at Mount Morgan, was relocated to Dululu in 1935 by James and Sophia Duthie who “wanted to stay in the district and keep the area going”. The Dululu Hotel has now served as the hub of the community for nearly 90 years and the reasons for the new owners to restore and reinstate the Dululu Hotel are remarkably similar to those of the Duthie’s. With another fire destroying part of the building in 2015 the premise has been closed for 8 years but has been given a new life with a total restoration began in 2023 by the new owners who have resided in the local area for 10 years and also want to renew the vigour of a thriving community hotel.
The Banana Hotel in Queensland stands as a testament to the region’s rich history and enduring charm. Nestled amidst the verdant landscapes, this iconic establishment has been a cornerstone of hospitality since its inception in the early 20th century. Originally a modest roadside inn catering to weary traveler’s, the hotel gradually expanded its facilities and reputation, becoming a beloved landmark in the area. From hosting locals’ gatherings to welcoming visitors from afar, the Banana Hotel has fostered a sense of community and camaraderie, making it more than just a place to stay but a cherished destination imbued with history and hospitality.
A very pleasant surprise.
We had just started our trip from Sydney to Cooktown and decided to try a few out of the way places on our journey.
Banana Motel turned out to be a real surprise. Rooms were clean and nice, undercover parking which we found are a must with the storms SE Qld. The attached bar and restraunt had simple and delicious meals we both could not finish. Breakfast before we left provided great coffee and again great food.
Lastly the staff, very polite and friendly. Helped with all our questions and very professional. One thing that could add to the service would be a vegetarian option on the menu. I am sure if we had asked that they would have accommodated.
Really good place to stay and eat! You don’t hear boo from the miners so credit to them! Room was beautiful and clean! Huge room. Had the surf and turf in the restaurant and it was fantastic also. Coffee shop attached to pub for early morning cuppas and food. A must stop and stay even travelling.
We stopped in for a coffee and breaky on our way travelling south. The coffee was delicious and they had a great selection of milks. We also got their ham toasty – oh my. It was incredible. And to top it off – really lovely customer service. A great little find!
