The Dawson Hospitality Group application for a Commercial Hotel Liquor license for the Dululu Hotel could be viewed as a reinstatement of a long standing community facility rather than a new impact on the Dululu Community. The original Dululu hotel was established 1928 but was destroyed by fire and the current hotel, once a boarding house at Mount Morgan, was relocated to Dululu in 1935 by James and Sophia Duthie who “wanted to stay in the district and keep the area going”. The Dululu Hotel has now served as the hub of the community for nearly 90 years and the reasons for the new owners to restore and reinstate the Dululu Hotel are remarkably similar to those of the Duthie’s. With another fire destroying part of the building in 2015 the premise has been closed for 8 years but has been given a new life with a total restoration in 2023 by the new owners who have resided in the local area for 10 years and also want to renew the vigour of a thriving community hotel.
